Apple’s first foldable iPhone might not be called the iPhone Fold at all. And it could cost $2,000.
According to Mark Gurman, Apple has settled on iPhone Duo as the name for its long-awaited foldable — and the latest details make it sound increasingly like a completely new class of iPhone.
The starting price is reportedly around $2,000, with Apple apparently choosing to absorb some of the additional memory costs rather than passing all of them on to customers.

And if $2,000 sounds expensive, things get considerably more interesting at the top end.
Gurman says storage configurations will reach 2TB, with the highest-capacity model costing roughly $3,000.
That is an eye-watering amount for an iPhone, but it also starts to explain how Apple could be positioning the Duo: not simply as a larger iPhone, but as a premium device designed to blur the line between phone, tablet and computer.
There are other interesting details, too.

The iPhone Duo is reportedly set to support Apple Pencil, adding another layer to the larger inner display and potentially making the device considerably more useful for notes, creativity and productivity.
Colour options are said to include dark blue and white, giving the Duo a surprisingly restrained launch palette.
Gurman reports that the iPhone Duo will ship in October, meaning Apple could unveil its most radically different iPhone yet at this week’s event — before putting it into customers’ hands shortly afterwards.
If these details hold up, the story isn’t simply that Apple is finally making a foldable.
It’s that Apple may be creating an entirely new tier of iPhone — with a new name, a $2,000 starting price, up to 2TB of storage, Apple Pencil support and a top-end price approaching $3K.
The iPhone Duo is starting to look less like an experiment — and more like Apple’s next big product category. And I for one can’t wait to actually see it.
