The iPhone Air Makes the Duo Look Even Crazier

There’s something slightly hilarious about seeing the iPhone Air next to the iPhone Duo.

They’re both unmistakably iPhones, both built around Apple’s obsession with making hardware feel incredibly refined — but they’re going in completely opposite directions.

The Air is basically Apple asking:

“How thin can we make an iPhone?”

The Duo is asking:

“How much screen can we squeeze into one?”

And seeing them side by side really drives that home.

The iPhone Air is ridiculously thin at just 5.6mm and weighs around 165g. It’s the kind of phone that looks almost unreal when you see it from the side.

Then there’s the Duo.

Folded up, it’s obviously a chunkier proposition, because there’s an entire second display, a hinge and a folding mechanism hiding inside it. But open it up and suddenly the thing turns into a 7.6-inch canvas.

That contrast is what I find most interesting.

The Air is about less.

Less thickness. Less weight. Less stuff between you and the screen.

The Duo is about more.

More screen. More space. More ways to arrange apps. More room for watching something, working on something or just having two things open at once.

And honestly, the video makes the difference feel much more obvious than a specification sheet ever could.

You can understand “5.6mm” perfectly well on paper. But put the Air beside the Duo and you suddenly see what Apple is doing.

One is trying to disappear.

The other is trying to unfold into something much bigger.

And that’s probably the most interesting thing about Apple’s iPhone lineup right now.

There isn’t really one idea of what an iPhone should be anymore.

There’s the iPhone that wants to be impossibly thin.

And there’s the iPhone that wants to become a little tablet without actually becoming a tablet.

Two very different directions.

Both very Apple.
