watchOS 27 is Now Available to Download

The Apple Watch just got a pretty big software refresh.

Apple has officially released watchOS 27 to the public, making the latest version of its Apple Watch software available to download today alongside iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate and visionOS 27.

And while watchOS doesn’t always get quite as much attention as iOS, there’s actually a fair bit going on here.

The biggest headline is Siri AI, which brings a more capable version of Siri to Apple Watch. Apple is also introducing a dedicated Siri app, giving users somewhere to revisit previous conversations rather than treating every Siri interaction as a one-and-done affair.

The rest of watchOS 27 is about making the Watch feel a little more useful — and a little less fiddly.

There’s a new dynamic app grid for getting to your apps faster, while a new single-tap gesture can open the Smart Stack using one hand. Smart Stack itself is getting smarter too, with more relevant suggestions appearing based on what you’re doing.

Apple is also expanding Workout Buddy, which can now work on Apple Watch without an iPhone nearby while using more fitness data to provide its motivational insights.

The Find My experience has been streamlined as well, bringing Devices, People and Items together into a more unified, map-focused interface.

And, of course, there’s another round of Liquid Glass refinements. Apple says watchOS 27 improves readability with more uniform refraction and better contrast, giving the interface a slightly more polished feel.

There are plenty of smaller touches too, including faster music playback, better step-count syncing between Fitness and Health, battery optimisation suggestions and new Smart Stack suggestions that can surface things like a parked-car location or an upcoming sleep alarm.

Who can install watchOS 27?

watchOS 27 is available for:

• Apple Watch Series 9 and later
• Apple Watch SE 3
• Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later

You’ll also need an iPhone 11 or later, or iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), running iOS 27 or later. (Apple⁠)

There is one particularly important caveat for UK and European users: Siri AI isn’t initially available on watchOS 27 in the EU, although Apple says it is rolling out in English elsewhere and additional languages are coming.

How to get watchOS 27

If your Watch is eligible, open the Watch app on your iPhone, head to General > Software Update, and download watchOS 27.

You’ll generally want your Apple Watch connected to its charger and within range of your iPhone while the update installs.

It’s another one of those Apple update nights where suddenly every device in the house wants attention.
