It’s time to update your Mac.
macOS 27 Golden Gate is officially available to download, with Apple rolling out its latest major Mac operating system to compatible Macs today.
After months of developer and public beta testing, Golden Gate has finally escaped the beta channel and is ready for everyone.
And there’s quite a lot packed into this one.
The biggest headline is undoubtedly Siri AI.

Apple has rebuilt Siri into something considerably more capable, with the ability to understand more natural requests, search through personal information and take actions across apps. There’s also a dedicated Siri app, giving conversations a more persistent home on the Mac.
Apple Intelligence is being pushed further across macOS too, including improvements to Spotlight, Visual Intelligence and other everyday workflows.
Then there’s Liquid Glass.
Golden Gate continues the visual direction introduced with macOS Tahoe, but Apple has spent the beta period refining it.

Transparency and contrast have been tweaked, window and toolbar treatments have been cleaned up, and users now get more control over how prominent the Liquid Glass effect feels.
There are plenty of smaller changes scattered throughout the system, too — and those are probably the ones that will become more noticeable after you’ve actually lived with Golden Gate for a few days.
There is, however, one rather important footnote to today’s release.
macOS Golden Gate is Apple silicon only.
If you’re still using an Intel Mac, macOS Tahoe was your final major macOS release.
Golden Gate supports Macs equipped with Apple’s M1 chip or newer, marking another major milestone in Apple’s transition away from Intel. (MacRumors)
How to download macOS Golden Gate
Getting the update is straightforward.
On your compatible Mac, head to:
> System Settings > General > Software Update
macOS 27 Golden Gate should appear as an available update. Hit Update and let your Mac do its thing.
As always, I’d recommend making sure you have a recent backup before installing a major operating system update.
And if you’re the sort of person who’d rather have the full installer sitting around — or wants to perform a clean installation — Golden Gate is also available through Apple’s official software distribution channels.
Either way, the wait is over.
macOS Golden Gate is here.
Time to see whether all those months of Liquid Glass tweaks, Siri AI experiments and beta builds have actually made the Mac better.
My Mac, for one, is about to find out …
