There’s no doubting the iPad is going to change our lives. In one way or another, if we choose to buy it, we will almost certainly use it on a daily basis. But, while most of us are planning out what activates are going to be the most popular while using the device, among which are browsing the web and downloading the more than 150,000 applications on the App Store, its almost certain that alongside these other uses will be a given. Instant messaging. Especially among college students.
Yesterday, Touch This received screenshots from an anonymous source which depict what appears to be an interface of an instant messaging app for iPad. The images show two panes, the first being the one on the left of the screen and displaying your buddy list, while the other is located on the right and used for conversation.
I have to say, while okay, its not what I expected .. not at all. Developers have the danger of making iPad applications which are “exact copies of their iPhone flavor, just bigger”. This in my opinion is not the way to move forward. The iPad has a fairly huge screen, I want iPad apps to use this to their advanatge and bring something to the table which iPhone IM clients don’t already bring to me today. I want to feel the screen, interact with it in new exacting ways. To be honest, this is not my idea of instant messaging on the iPad.
