There’s something very Apple about this new iPhone Duo ad.
Rather than spending a minute shouting about processors, megapixels or benchmark numbers, Apple is doing something much simpler: showing you what happens when an iPhone can change shape.

The new 66-second film is basically a little demonstration of the Duo’s party trick.
Open it up and you get the largest display ever put inside an iPhone. Fold it back and it becomes a more conventional phone. Prop it up, angle it, turn it around — suddenly the thing sitting in your hand starts behaving more like a tiny computer than a traditional smartphone.
And Apple has a wonderfully simple way of describing it:
“Foldable. Posable. And durable.”
That word — posable — is probably the most interesting part.
Apple isn’t really selling the Duo as a phone that happens to fold. It’s selling it as an iPhone that can occupy different positions depending on what you’re doing.
Want a huge screen? — Open it.
Want something smaller? — Fold it.
Want to watch something without holding it? — Stand it up.
Want to use two apps side by side? — Open it and let iOS take advantage of all that extra space.

That thinking runs right through the Duo experience. Apple says iOS 27 has been reworked around the different orientations, with everything from Split View multitasking to hands-free FaceTime and flexible viewing angles built around the hardware. (Apple)
And that’s what makes this ad work.
Apple isn’t trying to convince you that folding phones are suddenly cool. Samsung and everyone else have been doing that for years.

It’s showing why an iPhone that folds could actually be useful.
There’s also something quite satisfying about watching Apple treat the hinge almost like a piece of industrial design rather than a compromise. The Duo has a Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover, while the inner display gets a scratch-resistant coating and nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare and reflections. (Apple)
The result is a device that looks less like Apple finally caught up with the foldable-phone crowd and more like Apple waited until it had its own idea of what a foldable iPhone should be.

That might be the most important thing about the Duo.
The trick isn’t simply making an iPhone fold.
It’s figuring out what an iPhone can become once it does.
And judging by this latest ad, Apple thinks the answer is: quite a lot.
