There’s something about this iPhone Duo ad that feels… familiar.
Not because it looks exactly like an old Apple commercial. It doesn’t. The production is unmistakably modern, the product is brand new, and this is very much Apple in 2026.
But the feeling of it?
That feels a little bit like the Steve Jobs era.
Apple has always been at its best when it can take something complicated and make it feel incredibly simple. And that’s exactly what this ad does with iPhone Duo.

There’s no huge technical lecture. No endless list of specifications. No attempt to convince you that you need to understand how every part of the hinge, display or internal hardware works.
Instead, Apple shows you the thing
It folds.
It opens.
And suddenly the iPhone becomes something considerably bigger.
That simplicity is what reminds me of old Apple advertising. But there’s also something about the visual style here that takes me back to the old iPod touch ads.
Those commercials had this wonderfully direct quality to them. The product would appear against a clean, slightly off-white background paying homage to the original iPod, and the focus was entirely on what it could do. Music, movement and the device itself did most of the talking.
There was no need to over-explain the technology. You simply watched the iPod touch come alive in someone’s hands, and the appeal was immediately obvious.
This iPhone Duo ad has a similar energy.
The product feels almost weightless. The backgrounds are clean, the movement is playful, and the focus stays on the transformation from a familiar iPhone into something larger and more capable.
It’s not trying to make the device feel intimidating or overly futuristic. It makes it feel fun.
The Jobs Era
During the Jobs years, Apple was incredibly good at turning technology into an idea that anybody could understand. Think different. A thousand songs in your pocket. The iPhone itself being introduced as three products in one.

The technology mattered, but the experience was the story.
And iPhone Duo feels like Apple has rediscovered a little of that.
That’s especially interesting because this isn’t just another iPhone upgrade. It is arguably the biggest change to the iPhone’s physical design since the original arrived in 2007.
Apple has spent years making the iPhone thinner, faster and better. Duo changes the basic proposition: the phone you already know can now open into something much larger.
And rather than making that sound complicated, Apple makes it look almost obvious.

That’s the trick.
There’s also something wonderfully nostalgic about watching Apple introduce a completely new product category with the same confidence it used to have when unveiling products like the original iPhone, MacBook Air or iPad.
Of course, this isn’t Steve Jobs-era Apple. And it shouldn’t try to be.
Apple has a new CEO, a very different company, and a very different technology landscape. John Ternus has just unveiled the company’s first foldable iPhone as Apple begins another chapter.
But maybe that’s why this particular ad stands out.
For a few minutes, it doesn’t feel like Apple is trying to catch up with a trend.
It feels like Apple is introducing an idea.
And honestly? — I’ve missed that.
