iPhone Duo’s Opening and Closing Animation Has The Internet Going Wild

There’s something wonderfully dramatic about the way iPhone Duo opens.

You start with what looks and feels like an iPhone, begin unfolding it, and then — almost out of nowhere — boom. Tablet.

I’m not kidding. Look:

It genuinely looks like the iPhone is giving birth to a tablet.

The transition is ridiculously smooth, with the interface moving and adapting as the two halves come together or pull apart. It doesn’t feel like you’re simply opening a bigger screen; it feels like the device is actively transforming in front of you.

And I love that Apple has made the closing animation just as satisfying.

Fold Duo back up and that big, tablet-sized workspace disappears, bringing everything neatly back into the compact iPhone experience. No fuss, no awkward jump between layouts — it just folds away.

That could ultimately end up being one of those tiny details that makes Duo feel special in everyday use.

Open it: iPhone becomes tablet.
Close it: tablet becomes iPhone.

Okay, I’m just going to come out and say it: I could watch it do this all day.

The hinge itself contains more than 100 components, which is a slightly ridiculous amount of engineering for something whose main job is basically: open, close, repeat. […]
